brave old world

breadWe can’t decide whether this is annoyingly bougierrific or a cool experiment in history or a forward looking exercise in this our greatest depression, but in any event, our interest is piqued. The people behind the Four Pounds Flour blog are “eating like a tenement family” all week long. Based on an 1877 pamphlet they discovered, they’ll be cooking eating things like Toasted Bread and Scalded Milk, Mutton and Turnips, and Fried Lentils. But they’ll also get Corned Beef and Hash, Macaroni and Cheese, and plenty of potatoes and soup. Something tells me they’ll make it work, wonderfully. No word on whether they’ll be sharing a bathroom with several other families in their building.
